COLLECTION OF PRINTS AND DRAWINGS

The Collection of Prints and Drawings conserves works on papers made between the second half of the 18th century and the 1950s. The drawing education of the Schola Graphidis Budensis (Buda Drawing School) (1788–1886), the Königliche Städtische Zeichenschule zu Pest (Pest Drawing School) (1788–1886), the Metropolitan Municipal Technical Drawing School (1886–1946) and the Fine Arts Lyceum (1946–1950), moreover, in a broader sense the art educational activities of the Central Eropean region of the period can be reconstructed with the aid of the works of the collection. Copying of sample drawings and plaster casts were the main features of the drawing education of the 18th–19th centuries. Once these samples and casts were the main aids for teaching, nowadays these are considered to be particular objects with historical value. The remained parts of these samples and casts are conserved in the Rare Book Collection and in the Collection of Plaster Casts and Sculptures.
